What my clients say...
Our sessions would end with me feeling confident I could face the week ahead.
Cameron Robson has been my counsellor since September 2020.
I am a married 49-year woman with two daughters (20 and 17), and I work full time as Finance Director at an engineering company. I had been suffering from depression for around two years. Whilst visiting my GP to be prescribed more anti-depressant medication I was offered the opportunity to participate in a scheme where I would receive regular counselling sessions with a student.
Whilst initially sceptical, I agreed, and so, I first met Cameron in September 2020. On our initial meeting we talked about the outcomes I would like to achieve from the sessions. I said I wanted to be in a place where I could come off the medication and still be able to cope with family life and my job as I did not want to live the rest of my life on anti-depressants.
It has been quite a journey, with highs and lows along the way, the depression I was suffering with was compounded by the restrictions and fear associated with Covid 19 regulations. Cameron was a calming anchor in the turmoil that was going on in my life. Our weekly sessions helped me to cope with whatever issues I had that week and would end with me feeling confident I could face the week ahead.
The sessions with Cameron have helped me to recognise how to change things in my control to keep myself healthy and to work out coping mechanisms to deal with things that I cannot control. Fast forward 10 months, I am now medication free, happy, healthy, and coping well. I will have my last counselling session with Cameron in a couple of weeks and feel confident that I am now ready to go it alone.
I am confident that Cameron’s attitude and skills would make him a valuable contributor to any organisation. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have.
Thank you so much for all your help over the months we’ve been speaking.
You’ve helped me become more confident, expressive and understanding. Being able to subtly draw discussion of difficult topics out of me and giving me the time and ways of thinking about situations has been really helpful. I’ve felt like I could speak to you about any subject and now feel confident talking to others about my mental health and more generally about life.
I feel more positive and upbeat and having people notice the change in my demeanour shows just how far I’ve come, that being as much down to your help as anything else.
Being able to trust you and speak openly meant I could really dig into situations I wouldn’t have spoken to others about. Having had experience with other forms of mental health help I can say that you’ve really helped me feel like me again and I can’t express how much that means to me and the people around me. I feel like bad situations aren’t always my fault and sometimes I can’t help other peoples opinions or the situations they find themselves in.
Cameron showed such compassion and understanding whilst prompting me to talk.
Having suffered a mental health breakdown and feeling suicidal, I turned to my GP for urgent help. At this time, all I wanted and believed that I needed was medication to make everything better. However, having spoken to numerous GP’s, I was referred to the counselling service, this is where I met Cameron. He spoke to me on the phone and arranged a face to face consultation. I was quite sceptical of counselling and did not think that talking would help, however after weekly sessions with Cameron for over six months, I have realised that counselling has actually been my saving grace.
During my first consultation with Cameron, I was very upset and found it difficult to tell him how I was feeling. He showed such compassion and understanding whilst prompting me to talk, yet I did not feel judged and this gave me the confidence to open up to him.
Due to covid the rest of the counselling sessions were over the phone. Knowing that I had someone to talk to each week made those bad days a little more bearable. Cameron did more than just talk, he listened to me. He did not just listen to respond, I felt that he truly listened to everything I said. He has taught me coping methods which help me to focus on the positive times and has made me realise how important talking actually is.
Cameron has supported me through the ups and downs of my journey and I am eternally grateful for all of his help.
